Balance & Colour

CyanoMTB App

The aim of this project was to experiment and learn the principles of balance and colour. The project consisted of creating designs for an IPad app based on mountain biking. A landing page and product page were the designs specified however, the most important details for the designs were to focus on asymmetrical and symmetrical balance, complimentary colour schemes and contrasting colour schemes. These attributes were the main focal point within my designs. I experimented with these concepts and also considered the previous principles of contrast, alignment, hierarchy and negative space when producing my designs. Three of the images, copy and logo had to be implemented in the designs.

Website Research

To begin with I looked into existing Mountain Bike companies, to see if I could find inspiration or themes. I like the more impactful designs, which are not too busy but focus on the main element such as the bike. I was drawn to strong typographic elements which compliment the imagery and don't take too much away from the main focal point.

The Yeti website really caught my attention. I was drawn to the sophisticated style of layout and the simple linking of colour to the bike with a couple of words. The fact that the bike has been faded but the colour is a main feature is something that I wanted to try and incorporate in my designs.

Colour Contrast

When I started on my sketches I knew I wanted to have some hint of colour as my main contrasting focus. I tried to experiment with colour, black and white space to achieve this. To begin with I was not sure on how to create designs which were symmetrical and asymmetrical. After doing some more research I gained a better understanding of how I could apply this to my designs.

Landing Page Developments - Digital

I began developing my designs digitally, I clearly had a strong passion for the teal/green colour which is an ongoing theme throughout these designs. However, eventually I started changing colours and layouts so they were not all so similar. I really liked designing these, but reflecting back on them I don't think I was bold enough and could definitely of experimented more and gone past my comfort zone.
