Girl, Woman, Other
When coming up with ideas for this particular book I was inspired by traditional patterns that are associated with the women that this book is based around, British, African and Barbadian to name a few. This book cover felt it needed fun, colour and strong references to who these woman in the book are, their culture and history. I was also mainly inspired by Picasso and certain styles of his paintings. I used collage to create my final design which I loved doing. If I had used my time more wisely I definatley would have experimented more on incorporating collage and paint together to create interesting textures.
Research & Development
I began my research by looking at patterns that were assosiated with the women who are mentioned in the book. I also looked at woman of colour and their culture of old and new, I tried to think how this could be shown through imagery, I did this by finding images on pinterest and finding images from magazines and collating them together. I liked how organic the collage came out, the images fit together really well into a composition which I felt represented the book. I didn't do many thumbnail sketches as I did run out of time on this part, I would of definitley explored more ways of designing this cover.
I then took these collage images into photoshop and started adding typograhy. I really liked the typeface that I chose for the final cover, it felt appropriate, fun and lively. I was happy with the design for this cover. I was able to go a bit 'mad' with colour and patterns and it felt only in keeping to do so.
