Murder most Unladylike

​The main objective for the next project ahead was to create 3 book cover designs aimed at different demographics. It was important to research more about the type of person who would read each of these different books rather than comparing and researching books which had already been produced. 
Personally I found the children’s book cover ‘Murder most Unladylike’ the most challenging. Trying to figure out how to make a murder applicable to children was difficult. If I was too this design again I would definitely tried to use the clever methods of negative space designs without needing too much detail. 

Research

Athough these are not related to the topic of the book, I was still drawn to the covers and thought they were impactful and stood out.
As the theme of the book is set in the 1930's I gathered a collection of images which reminded me of that era and what could be related to the storyline of the book. 

Thumbnail Sketches

For this design in particular I struggled with being able to come up with the right kind of idea, each one I thought of seemed to complicated and very illustrative which I didn't want to follow through with. You can see in my designs they are very patchy and don't hold much too them. 

Developments

After hitting a bit of a wall I took some of my designs to be made digital, these were not going so well. After a good talk with one of my tutors she encouraged me to go back and do some re-thinking and analysing of the synopsis. From here I collected more images and displayed them in a sketch book with some ink, re-arranging and trying to get some sort of idea which could be adapted into something more.
