Bleat - Sustainable Product Packaging

Research
This brief focused on product packaging. The main objective was to create a range of goat dairy products with a sustainable ethos when designing, such as the materials the packaging was made from. Another factor to consider when designing the packaging was the information that was to placed on the labels, barcodes, health information, and the nutrional information. When it came to my designs I took into consideration the layout and hierachy, colour schemes and typographical choices. The aimed demographic were 25-35yr old, who had not tried diary products before.
To begin with, I researched as much information regarding goats and packaging materials, this included, health benefits, production and wellfare of goats/breeds and how sustainable and recycleable materials are.
To begin with, I researched as much information regarding goats and packaging materials, this included, health benefits, production and wellfare of goats/breeds and how sustainable and recycleable materials are.
After my initial research, I looked into different types of glass and shapes of bottles. I was interested to begin with to have unusual or unique shaped packaging, however this didn't seem viable for the placement of labels.
The next stages of my research, I expanded my knowledge with different materials for the packaging, how sustainable they were and recycleable. Upon my research I had an idea to create a taster pack of the goat products, this would mean each of the items were in a smaller size to entice people to try the products before purchasing larger quantities. As well as smaller packaging, I wanted to reduce the amount of waste and try to promote sustainable re-useable packaging where it was possible, such as the bottle and jars. By doing this, I felt the target demographic would be more inclined to purchase these as they were being promoted in taster sizes, to avoid food waste.
Thumbnails
After I had established my brands main ethos and the materials for the packaging, I had more of a vision. Below are the images of goats which I used for my imagery for reference. I have also linked a website which gave me inspiration and my pinterest board for packaging ideas and colour schemes.
Before I began my thumbnails, I has to figure out a name. I brain stomed a few ideas and tried to see them develop further. Some worked and some didn't. At one point I was set on Beat the Herd, however, as pointed out to be, the words are not great to sell products, which could definitley of been interpretaited in the wrong way!
I had two styles which I couldn't decide between, I developed several labels of each style further, experimenting with patterns, colour choices and the layout of each idea.
I decided to go with the name Bleat, with the design that related more to the natural world and reminded me of how the goats were connected to mountains and nature, which is often my point of influence in design.
Digital Developments
Once it was time to go on and develop my initial ideas, I needed to create the logo. I went into photoshop and illustrator and experimented with different methods of establishing the branding and colour schemes and hierachy of the labelling information.
After experimenting with different images and typography choices, I decided to bring forward one of the designs and create my labelling for the packages.

Further Development
After presenting these ideas as my final, I got feedback to change the typography choices and some colour schemes, however, when I came to do this I actually decided I wanted to change most of the design. I wasn't fully satisfied with some of my design choices, I had a vision for the pattern however my development didn't meet my expectations. I kept on wanting to create some sort of geometric pattern, therefore, I went back into illustrator and experimented with pattern ideas.
